I am tired of getting boned at the dealer for oil changes and am going to do the next one myself adding the Fumoto to make it easier in the future. You guys that have installed the Fumoto valves, which one did you use? The one with the nipple or the one without? Why? I am also going to do my fuel filters from this point forward. Is there anything I should know that may bite me on the backside if not handled properly? Thanks in advance.....
I bought the one with the nipple on it so I can stick a hose on the end in case I ever have to change the oil on a windy day. I also have stuck a rubber cover over the end to keep it from getting dirty. This way I don't contaminate the oil if I am going to send it off for analysis.
As far as the oil changes go, make sure you use CI-4+ or CJ-4 rated oil. The most common around here is either Motorcraft or Rotella.
For oil filters make sure to get Racor made filters. Racor has patents on the filter design, and will fit filters have been known to cause issues with the 6.0L. Fram and Motorcraft are both Racor made filters repackaged in thier respective boxes. If you have a Schucks or Pep Boys near you watch thier ads. They run a 2 for $7 ad for Fram filters about once a month that will save you a lot of money. Some people will give you a hard time saying that the 6.0L filter isn't included, but it is not excluded on the coupon so ask them to talk to a manager or corporate eomployee, because many of us have been using this coupon.
Thanks for the quick reply there beerstalker! I was also thinking that the nippled version would be the best way to go and the rubber cap trick is a real good idea as well.
I bought the nipple version along with a hose, but I have yet to use it. If I were to do it over again, I'd probably get the one without the nipple. But what the heck, it really doesn't make a difference as my truck is so tall that I'm not worried about hitting it while offroading. It is nice to have it there in case I ever do need it. I would only be swayed from the Nipple version if I had a 2wd or if I did a lot of offroading. Either way, you'll enjoy how easy it makes an oil change.
I don't know if they changed sizes on the hex caps, but the fuel filter cap on the frame rail on my '03 F-350 is 1 3/8" and oil filter cap is 1 7/16" with the torque specs on the caps if I'm not mistaken. The fuel filter up top by the oil filter has a 1/2" ratchet drive recess, just put an extension on the torque wrench for that one and get a 1/2X3/4 adapter to use the torque wrench on those two big sockets.

Actually they are both 36mm, you can get a shallow 36mm socket at Pep Boys, Advanced Auto etc for about $10.
Thanks for all the replies gentlemen! I am going to order the nipple version tonight and change the oil when I receive it hopefully next week sometime. I am still only 2500 miles into the 5000 so it is not time critical at all yet. I do appreciate all the feedback and will put it to good use real soon.
I had a Ford dealer here by my house quote me 200 dollars just to change the fuel filters! That is just ridiculous and I have no intention of paying that kind of money to do them. The dealer where I bought the truck wants to have it for half a day while they do it and I figure I can do both the oil change AND fuel filters in less than an hour if take my time and double check everything the whole time.
I have been using Fumoto valves for a few years and always bought the nippless version never any problems. I have a old galvinized wash tub I use to drain the oil into. It has two handles on it so its easy to drag out from under the truck.
I never had anybody change the oil in any of my trucks I always did it myself I just changed the oil in my 03 F-450 today. I changed it early because I think I have been having problems using the brand of oil I used for my second oil change. I went to Delo 400 15w-40 I used Pennzoil 15w-40 for the first oil change when I bought the truck 5 months ago. I changed it to Duron 15w-40 a Canadian made oil. I went to Delo 400 I have used it on previous trucks its just more expensive to get because I need to travel 1 hour to the place that sells it.
I was comparing the color of the new oil Pennzoil looks like Vegitable oil, Duron looks like light maple syrup and Delo looks like maple syrup.
The problem I had soon as I changed the oil from Pennzoil to the Duron I started having a sticking turbo problem. I don't know if oil quality has something to do with the turbo vain actuator which operates off of oil pressure.
The oil filter from Ford is 28 bucks the 18.9 litre pail of Delo 400 is 68 dollars so a oil change isn't cheap but its cheaper than replacing the engine.
i got 2 fumoto valves a month ago for my truck and my brothers. I did the oil change and installed them. He overfilled his oil, since it doesnt' really take as much as is listed in the manual and he didn't realize it. No problem, twist the valve and drain off a quart, no mess no fuss.
makes an easy oil change even easier. money well spent.
Go w/o the nipple, why have more things hanging lower than needed? Just put a 5 gallon bucket under the valve and hang out for awhile. One cigar & beer job BTW. I use the clip on mine as well.

I was sceptical about buying one 3 years ago when I first bought one I'am on my second one which went on my 6.0. Drained the oil yesterday only got one drip on my finger and I drained the engine hot.
My biggest fear and its happened to me is pulling the threads on the oil pan. Let me tell you its a SOB when that happens you have a two choices which is try retap the hole or pull the pan. Not fun either way.
Nipple-less has worked out for me. At oil change time, I get my 4 empty 1gal oil jugs and a 6" tall plastic box (old Pepsi bottle case). Using the case as a platform, the bottle openings come within 1" of the stream of draining oil. It's easy to know when the bottle is getting full, because they have the transparent strip running up the side . When a bottle is full, I turn the valve off, and the oil stream stops NOW! Replacing the full, with an empty bottle is the only part of the job that requires more than 2 brain cells. It's an easy and relaxing job.
