PSD questions

Howdy, Im looking at getting a new truck soon. My dad has a 2000 f-250 with the 7.3 psd and it is an amazing truck. I am also looking for a diesel but cant decide between the 94-97 and the 99-03 PSD's. The older ones are slightly cheaper but they still seem like very strong trucks. What are the major differences between the two and what are some pros and cons. I have heard somewhere that the 94-97 were not intercooled, is this true? If so, is that a big problem or something that can be "easily" installed? I know that is a lot of questions but any input is greatly appreciated.

Hello Tex. Welcome to the site.

I see you haven't had many answers yet. I suggest you go to the 7.3 or the 6.0 forums and try posting this. More guys hang out there and you'll get answers!

As for me....I bought the 2003 with the 6.0L back in Feb and I've not been sorry yet. The only sucky part is remembering to put miles on the 1992 F150 I still have in the driveway!

Good Luck Pal!

Joe

Thanks Joe, I am obviously new to the site and did not really know where to post, I will try 7.3 forums and see what happens.

Welcome to the site!!!
I see you have found the 7.3l section.

My only real advice is try and find a stick. The E4OD (94.5-97) are notorious for problems, and the 4R100 (97-03) which is basically a beefed up E4OD isn't a whole lot better.
As for which truck to choose... well it depends on how much money you are prepared to spend really, and to be honest, you can buy a heck of a lot of gas for a second hand V10 for the price difference between one of those and a PSD.

True, the V10's seem to be cheaper, but what is the fuel economy on those? I suspect the 7.3L is around 14-18

Most users report 11-13.
It comes down to a personal preference thing, but I know for one that a user in the Superduty forum purchased a 99 used V10 (4x4 SuperCab, longbed, manual 130k miles) for $5k not that long ago.
Probably can find similar deals where you are (although I would hang out for the 2000 model V10, with the PI heads and 310hp)
Where the cheapest 7.3's (94.5-97) in reasonable condition and miles, have been asking double that.
