my 460 buildup update

On March 13 I posted the ? what should I expect from my 460 and received several replies along with replies to a couple of other ? I have posted.
I wanted to update everyone on how its going.
I have for the most part completed my 1980 F250 4x4 460 (473) ci. project.
Today I fired it up for the first time and boy am I impressed. The motor sounds good with open headers, too bad it has to get the muffler treatment.
Tomorrow is the first road test once the oil is changed and the valvetrain has been checked, etc.. I think its too early to run the rpm's up to where I'll be mud racing it at, but I should have enough time on it by the weekend to see what its got.
I want to thank everyone who has helped me along before and during my project it made a tough job easier.

Glad to hear you are up an about.
Don't ****** too many stumps at one time with it.
With the muscle you have now, you probably could pull down a forest.
Have Fun !!

my 460 buildup update

Just remember to properly break in the motor first. The biggest thing to remember is not to keep the engine at a certain rpm for a long period of time. The idea is to accelerate and decelerate, which breaks in the rings evenly. What all do you have done to your 460 by the way?

~'71 F-100 Sport Custom Reg.Cab
-390FE w/Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, 780cfm Holley, ported & polished cylinder heads,
Crane Cam (0.548"I,0.580"E), 10.5:1 CR, Black Jack headers, true double roller timing chain, and high volume oil pump
-C6 transmision w/B&M 2600rpm stall
-9" Ford Rearend w/4.10 Richmond Gears & 31 spline axles
-215/65/r15 Yokohama's for the front & 28"x13.5"x15" Mickey Thompson ET Street slicks for the back
Best 1/4 mile time @ 3375ft altitude 14.69secs @ 92mph

~'98 F-150 XLT Reg. Cab Flareside 4x4, Black, 5.4L, 3.55LS, tow package, 285/75/r16 Mud Terrain BFG's,K&N, GTS headlight covers, Alpine changer w/FM mod, Clifford alarm system w/keyless entry & starter disable // Future considerations: Bed mat, tonneau cover, 4" suspension lift or 3" body lift.

~2000 Suzuki RM125 Dirt Bike
-no need for any modifications! (yet)

my 460 buildup update

If you would like to see what I have done to my engine look for my March 13 ? that was posted on this board.
I did vary the rpm when it was broke in, from idle to 3000rpm never holding at one rpm for more than a minute or two.
We ran the truck on a friends test track last night and the trans shifted through all 3 gears and the rpms never dropped.
This truck has more power than anything I have ever owned.

Thanks for the replies
