Fuel return line?

I'm on my second electric fuel pump and I hear that a fuel return line will greatly expand the life of the pump. Can somebody explain how to set this up? Thanks.

It would greatly help if we knew what kind of setup you are running. If it's a factory efi application it should already have a return line.

1988 F-150, SWB, 5.0 EFI (formerly 4.9 EFI), M5OD 5 speed, 3.08 gears, Summit shorty truck headers, Custom built Flowmaster exhaust system. Force 4 LP6000 lightbar, Federal signal PA-300 100 watt siren, Icom IC-V100 50 watt mobile radio.
=======================================
1965 F-100 (just purchased 1/18/01), SWB, 390, C-6 auto. Dual exhaust, Not much else to do to it.

Can see both below.

No, this is on my old Bronco with a 351W, edelbrock 600cfm carb, and holley red fuel pump. Does that help?

I really depends on how much pressure that pump puts up to the carb. If it's more than about 8 psi, then you might have to find a way to get the extra pressure out of the carb.

Fuel return line?

OK I have a Blue Holley with a regulator set up on my Pulling Truck. A few months back I read how if you run a return line it will help keep your pumps alive longer .. So What I did was this.
I had two 3/8th line running from the regulator to my 850 DP Holley, I removed them and went to one 1/2 line off one side run to the carb. then to a fuel log, and a 3/8th line run back to the tank. When I first turned the pump on I only had 2 LBS. line pressure, So I took the 3/8th Brass line barb off and taped it so I could Screw a 1/4" bolt into it with red locktight and cut the extra off flush with the end of the fitting, once it set up I drilled a 1/8" hole in the bolt, when I turned the pump on again I could now set the pressure at 7 psi to the carb. with lots of adjustment left.NOw my pump run steady without laboring against it self...
