I recently bought a 2000 X, LTD, 7.3, 81K miles. Front end collision. Engine not damaged, fires up, etc. Looks like it will need a whole new front end, clip, radiator, pumps, bumper, etc.
I want to update to something like an 05 grill and some other mods like shocks, custom hood, etc. Looking for advice on:
1) ideas for the update
2) sources for parts (outside of ebay)
3) Other tips on how to proceed.
I understand the aspect that 99 to 07 is direct bolt on, but since it is already damaged and if it comes to a point where you have to upgrade quarter panel, grill, hood and all supporting structure you might as well consider 08 front end.
ICK! Why would you purposely put that monstrosity on the front of your truck? You'll have an Excursion with Down's Syndrome.
An 05-07 front end would be easier to install and obtain...plus it is the best looking front end ever to grace the Super Duty.
I am never going to be able to look at another 08 without thinking about that!!! At least I am not the only one that thinks the 08 front end looks weird, to me it looks like instead of wandering eyes, it has wandering headlights, you never know where they are looking.
so how much fabrication would it require? anyone have and idea of the cost (08 grill, etc). avail on ebay???
as i understand it the frame is different so the core support won't fit in your frame. at the very least this involves cutting the new core support.
even greater trouble would be if you had to modify the frame itself.
you may not know this yet but innerfenders and core support are one piece on your truck.
it wraps completly around the front, not sure if they kept this design on the 08 or not.
