How much pressure?

My ex-neighbor gave me his Binks model 18 paint gun before moving. Now that I've finally collected the equipment to get my truck primered, and some things painted, what pressure(s) should I start spraying paint and primer with?

Thats an old conventional gun, so probably around 50 lbs or so. You will have to adjust based on how its spraying, and adjust fluid control and till you are getting it to spray the best without too much orange peel, going on wet enough without running ect. Conventional guns take some pressure and put some overspray in the air, but somewhere around 50 should get you in the ball park. Maybe start a bit lower, and if you getting too much orange peel, reduce the primer more, cut down a little on the fluid or bump the air up. I learned to adjust conventional guns starting out by holding you hand on the trigger and moving the fluid **** till the trigger stops moving, then turn back again till you feel the trigger move again, and in a turn. Fan as wide as possible with a good pattern without distortion.

Thank-you, that's higher than I'd thought. I watched one of my friends bow the bottom of his gun several years ago, and didn't really have too much desire to do that to mine.

yeah, conventionals take some pressure. I'd start at maybe 40 range and if need be bump up pressure till it starts spraying the best. Will depend somewhat on material viscosity and what fluid set at, size your spraying. Actually when you have been spraying enough, You really don't pay that much attention to what the pressure is. Kinda kinda tell by sound and how it is spraying and adjustment is pretty automatic without really thinking about it weather its a fluid adjustment pressure adjustment or change in how how close or fast your spraying. And the cheap 1/4 regulators aint real accurate anyways.
