This pump is I believe, from a 70 something F-150. It has a miniscule leak at the fitting where it enters the body.Just enough to be messy in the inner fender. I found that the 15/16 nut was not ROCK TIGHT when I checked it. I have never been inside one of these. Is there likely some other issue? Some sort of intenal seal? Better to send out for a rebuild? Replace with a new one? I have a couple of the plastic bodied, smaller round ones that i believe replaced this model, and prolly the bracketry. Also, can anyone tell me what years these pumps were used? Thanks
It's just the standard PS pump Ford used across car and truck lines from the late sixties until the new design replaced it in 1977. The new design was used until 1997. It's probably just the nut. If it's not making noise, it's probably OK. I've never rebuilt a pump, but I have replaced the rubber O ring that goes around the reservoir housing. That task is simple as long as you don't bend the can any. Ford also used the GM Saginaw pump design on the larger Ford and Lincoln/Mercury cars for a few years in the 70's. What numbers are on the tag? That tells what year and original design it was for.
That's an old Thompson pump. Most NAPA's carry them. I had one in my '75 Bronco. You can use that truck info for getting a rebuilt one. They aren't a very good pump but if you don't beat your truck like I whip my Bronco you should be good.
