'06 STX question

I'm thinking about ordering a new ranger stx 2.3l 5-speed, and I'm looking for some input. I don't really know a whole lot about them as a whole, or the reliability, the REAL gas mileage not the listed, and whatever anyone else thinks about them. So, any info is very much appreciated.

The Ranger/2.3L/5 speed combo is strong and reliable, don't expect many problems, especially out of the 2.3L. The 5 speed is strong as long as the plugs at the top rear in the shift rail don't leak, otherwise kiss your bearings goodbye.

Mileage around town will be low to mid 20s, highway high 20s, depending on gear ratio.

Be gentle at first, but after it's broke in properly, don't be afraid to rev it, that's where the power is.

+1. It's the darling of the bunch. People talk about their 'little' Ranger and the excellent service they've gotten out of them. People sell them only when the 'have to'. Then regret it. You can't go wrong and the price is right. It's a tank with a 4 banger. You'll be buzzin around everywhere with it. If you're disappointed with the get up and go after a bit, and you don't mind sacrificing a little on the gas, you can swap in 4.10 gears and you'll be pleased. Just remember to follow the brake in procedure as RP suggested for the drivetrain as well as the brakes(it'll reduce the chances of squeeling brakes in the future), and you'll be pleased.
