I own a 1986 Bronco XLT 2wd. It has a 5.0 FI with auto w/overdrive. I bought this truck from an individual who had it stored in a barn for the past 10 years.
Here is the problem, after you have been driving the truck for approx 20 min or more, the truck will start to jerk/surge like it is losing fuel, but doesn't completely shut off. If you shut the truck off, it will not start back up for an hour or so later. It turns over, but acts like it is not firing, or getting fuel. I have checked the fuel rail schrader valve and it has good pressure, just won't start back up. You can hear the pump coming on when you turn on the switch.I looked for an O2 sensor thinking that could be the problem, but that year didn't have one.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Items replaced.
1.high pressure fuel pump
2.Throttle Position Sensor
3. Ignition Module on the side of the dist.
4. fuel filter 2 times, just to be safe, even though the tank has been replaced.
Time to pull computer codes. This will take the guess-work out of the situation by pinpointing faults that have occurrd in the system. There are several ways to go about pulling codes. The procedure is rather simple. www.fordfuelinjection.com, or a Haynes service manual will give you the full details. Guessing at what and where the problem is, will only leave you with a ot of money spent chasing things that it COULD be rather than solving the problem.
(I find it intriguing that you have a Bronco that proports to be 2WD since they were not sold that way from the factory).
Thanks for the reply. I am going to put it in the shop to get the codes pulled. I bought a scanner, but it will not pull the codes for some reason. I converted the Bronco over to a 2WD myself I needed something close to the ground that my youngest daughter could climb in and out of, and I had everything that I needed at no extra cost, so I did it.
Well, the transmission & t-case as well as the front shafts & ring & pinion were all bad. Had a truck sitting with all the parts I needed, so I guess dumb in your opinion would mean that you are just too lazy to do something different ???
Too lazy? I just got through swapping a c6 auto for a np435 4spd. I also twinsticked the np205. I am building a 460 to swap in place of the 351. I am repainting the whole bronco blue my self. When i got somthing broke i dont just pull it off and throw it away.
Ok, here's your pat on the back if that's what you are looking for. I just posted up to ask a question concerning a problem I was having. I didn't know that you were waiting just post post a useless comment on my thread.
I'll just sign off of here so that I won't feed your ego.
I would like to see more pics, too me its interesting to see 2wd broncos, my favorite was the lightning mod. Different strockes for different folks and some just have different needs.
As long as you don't lower it with bags and slap 24" bligalishis wheels Im cool with it.
Can't say anymore that what grey as mentioned, but to go any further you need to know what the comp. is trying to say.
