Does anyone know anything about Torque Converters made by Axiom Automotive Technologies? The rebuilt stock one failed that they had just installed so they gave me a free upgrade to one called the FM64DX-S3. Actually that is their upgrade part number to a E40D, 4R100. I have a sheet they gave me which lists the different upgrade part numbers and some basic information about each upgrade. This sheet says this upgrade provides extra low stall, has a Billet cover, bearings on the turbine hub, and a multi disk damper. From what I've read this all sounds pretty good to me. It also says that the stall speed is 250 RPMs lower than the FM64D. Howerver, I can't find what the stall speed of the FM64D is.
I would like to know or figure out what the stall speed of my new converter is. I read somewhere that the peak torque range of the 7.3L is 1600-1800 RPMs and that ideally you would like a converters stall point to be at about 80% of the engines peak torque.
Also, it will going back to the shop monday since it stopped shifting corretly tonight. Specifically, it won't shift from 2nd to drive. The last time it did this they said the shift piston had hung and they polished it which made it seem to work ok until tonight. So anyway this might be an opportunity to get a better shift kit or other free upgrade to the shift pistion. Does anyone have any recommendations for upgrades to this.
Brian's number is 870-422-3673. Even if he doesnt sell you anything, he'd be willing to stay on the phone and troubleshoot with you. If it's the piston in the valve body hanging, then quite possibly he could sell you one of his modified valve bodies. They do a great job of controlling the shifts on a stock transmission, any one for that regard. Give him a call and see whats up.
