Hello I was told that the 429 and the 460 had the same block and that you could build a 429 from a 460 block buy putting in a 429 crank to get the shorter stroke. Also that 429 heads would bolt on to the 460 block with out a problem,is there any truth to this?

The big question is: Why? A 460 will build more power than a 429 especially if set up for street or off-road use. If you think you can RPM it higher...think again...a properly set up 460 with a 3Y
crank, balanced, aluminum rods, roller cam, and proper oiling mods will spin in the 7,000+ RPM range. I used to shift my 514 c.i. drag engine at 7,600 RPM, never had any problem with the bottom end (occasional broken valve springs with .700+ valve lift). Getting back to street engines, if you do go with the 429 make sure to check the cc. of the heads...some of the early 429 heads had small combustion chambers and may raise your compression ratio enough to require you to run premium or, worse yet, premium and a fuel additive or water injection to stop detonation.
