Fact is the first Ford super cab was 1938. You need to search 1938 Ford COE and you can see a picture of a super restoration of one. You can also find 1939 and 1941 versions. Mostly grill changes. I am inthe process of acquiring a 1951 right now.
My plan is to update it by either installing on a Ford 4x4 Extended Cab F250 Powerstroke Diesel chassis which I now have but is too nice to tear up or a Chev Dually chassis which I also have.
The dilemna is the Ford Diesel is currently licensed but has 300,000 mi on it.
The Chev Dually is non-oped, but only has 60,000 miles. It is a 77 with dents in every panel and would need to be smogged yearly in Calif, and with a carbureted 454 and Turbo 400 trans it is difficult to pass.
Since I have the whole 1951 F-5 Truck and title the Chev conversion would then not need to be smogged because of age exemption.
[quote=51dueller;4950773]Just one thing to consider is that a 30's or 40's truck wouldn't be able to handle a trailer without major modifications not to mention the size. A 30's to 41 truck is like the size of a Ranger.quote]

My 51 F-series project if you look back at 51 Ford literature was Equipped as a tractor trailer (Vernor's Ginger Ale) conventional cab in the picture.
The Chev 30 series Dualie chassis of which I am the original orner, back in its former life routinely pulled a 40 foot 5th wheel trailer which according to the DMV Scales at I-5 in southern Oregon had a rear axle wt of 16,000lb. This truck would whistle up and down the freeway at 70mp taking any hills into stride.
The 92 Ford 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel makes trips east on I-80 and sails up the hill out of Salt Lake City with no problem pulling trailer.
So I figure either one of those modern chassis with their automatic transmissions and bigger better hydraulic brakes when set under the old 51 Cab is kinda like a street Rod version of the old 51 truck. Much more creature comfort for travelling.
