Questions about adding Offroad lights

All;
Sorry if this has been asked before. I searched the forum using "Wiring" and "Lights" but didn't find anything.

I have 2 new Procomp 9" Halogen lights and Procomp light bar. I have a decent wiring kit with a relay and switch. Does anyone have a good write up on where to mount the relay, how best to tie into the battery for power, etc. Pictures would be a plus! Thanks.

Keep your fuse close to the battery. You can mount your relay anywhere (I have 5 of them mounted to the inner fender on the driver's side by using a singe sheet metal screw for each relay. All are grounded onto a sheet metal screw into same fender.

Battery to fuse to relay. Ground to relay. Wires from relay to lights. One wire from relay to switch. At switch one wire to a power source, one to ground (if switch is lighted), one to relay. Good luck.

JC;
Thanks! I finally got time to look under the hood today. I see the battery cable has a nice 6mm stud to mount to. That was one of my biggest concerns. What wire did you use to power the switch?

I actually always run switch power back to the battery also because I don't like "tapping" into a wire that is already working properly. That's your call but if you tap into one under the dash - I suggest that you find one that is always powered so you don't have to have the key on.

Enjoy,

JC

JC,
That is a good point. Before I read this I found an existing tap that the previous own had installed. Whatever they were powering they removed before I bought it. I was able to pry the tap open, remove the wire they cut off and insert my own. It is Key on but I do tend to forget to turn things off so that is OK.

Thanks for taking time to help!
