Looking for the black ones, the chrome wouldn't go good with everything else being black

if you don't mind not going genuine ford, you can check out partstrain.com (you may have to look them up under 2000 SD). Their prices are very reasonable, and the quality is great (I have a set for my 2000 X)

Thats what I did, and the prices aren't bad. Just FYI you will have do do some splicing, or find someone on here willing to sell you the Y adapters. On the early X's (like your 2000) the mirror connections were split up (a round white one for move and a square black one for heat) and the parts train ones have one rectangular plug and an adapter so it fits the white round plug in the doors. The only problem is that when you plug into the adapter, you lose the heat function, so you have to splice the 2 black wires (heat circuit)from the mirror into your truck's existing wiring. (if you take the connectors off your old mirror, you can leave the truck's wiring all stock) I'm sure thats about as clear as mud, put let me know if you want a better explanation of what I did on my truck)

That sounds like a lot of work, but its really not, and I have been very happy with the mirrors .

Good luck!

Isaac

Slightly Puzzled

I have to ask about the 4 bolts for the Tow mirrors. I was looking at my 01 and it only has 2 obvious bolts on the door. Where are the other 2 accessible from?

I bought a set off of ebay and the passenger side has the flat multi-wire plug and the drivers side has the 2 separate wire plugs. They are both Factory Fords, but the drivers has a 10-99 build date and the pass has an 11-00 build date.

2 are behind the rubber plugs, 2 are behind the small plastic piece on the inside of your door next to the rubber plugs. Just take a screwdriver and pop it off.

That is what I thought, but when I removed the small black cover the was nothing but metal.

I hope I don't have to drill the doors.

They are hiding behind the foam tape like sound deadening material.

Thanks for the tip! I got them installed no problem. I figured out the easiest way to get to the wires was to remove the door panel and then the door speaker. There they sit.

Passenger door no issues due to having the correct wire plugs. Drivers door has issues. Truck = 2 plugs set up, Mirror = Flat plug.

The Door has:
1. Red
2. Blue
3. Yellow
4. Green with Yellow stripe.
All on the white plug
1.Green with Black Stripe
2.Black
Both on the Black plug

Mirror has Flat Connector:
1. Red
2. Yellow and a 2nd Yellow both in 1 socket
3. Blue
4. Black
5 Black

I am assuming the Red goes to Red, Blue goes to Blue, Yellow goes to one of the Yellows and the other Green with Yellow goes to one of the Yellows. I think the two blacks from the will connect to the other 2 Blacks.

Does anyone know if this sounds correct?

My original mirrors were Power/Defrost/Signal Sail Mirrors.

yeah, I don't have the signal mirrors (my X is too old haha) so im not positive on the white connector. But you are correct on the black wires (thats the defrost circut so polarity doesn't matter).

I'm not going to try to take a guess as to what the others are, but If you need to find out, I would just take a volt-meter and check for 12v on each wire when you activate a circut (ie turn on the blinker or adjust the mirror etc...)

Also, if you still have the original mirrors, cut the connectors (with wire tails) off of them. That way, you can wire up the mirror to those connectors, so you can leave the wiring in the doors stock.

Be careful, the plastic on those connectors can get pretty fragile (I accidentally cracked a tab off by mistake when i did it, so just be careful)

Hope that helps!

You will be very pleased with your new mirrors!

All Done and working well. The Green wire with white stripe was the turn signal wire. Everything else wired up perfectly. Red to Red, Blue to Blue and Two Yellows to one Black.

I really hated to cut the plugs off my other mirrors, but hey it made the job simple as in plug and play!

Thanks for all of the help!
