LAST EDITED ON 06-Sep-01 AT 10:34 AM (EST)[p]Crank & lower end. I am bulding a 5.0 for F150 4X4 from scratch. Will have nice cam and prob Edelbrock heads. looking for around 300 HP. Are there any recomends on a crank, rods and pistons? I plan on chrome rings.
Is there any reason I would need any thing other than a new stock bottom end??

Michael, sorry no one else has replied to you. I'm doing the same thing for my '83 Bronco 4x4 5.0, but I'm practice "engine rebuilding" on the original 302. My Bronco is getting a '86-'92 Mustang 5.0 H.O. shortblock. The shortblocks with the roller cam and forged pistons. They only have 2 bolt mains, but add a main girdle to that block and it can hold at least 400-450 hp. Mike find a '86-'92 Mustang 5.0 shortblock or buy one brand new part# M-6010-A50. Build it the right way. TRW Forged pistons and H-beam rods, cast crank, etc. Get some Edelbrock Performer heads and kick #####. I want to either turbocharge or supercharge my 5.0! Good Luck.

I have already got a brand new block from Summit. Was delivered on Sat. Also got the crank and ordered the rods.
I am also purchasing everything else in a kit from www.enginekitsonline. All TRW & Sealed Power parts. Forged pistons, recommended cam, timing set, premium rings, gaskets bearings, brass freeze plugs and every other block part is included in their kits except lifters. I plan to buy them new as well.
I had already intended to get the Edelbrock heads and the lower intake manifold.
It should make well over 350HP.

Looks like a good plan. If you notice, everything you are buying is making lots of power higher up, like the high flow heads and such. To capitalize on these mods, you should check your final drive ratio. If it is something like a 3.08 or 3.55 with huge tires, I would plan on going to a higher number ratio so you can take advantage of the higher rpm.
