Back from Vacation
The surprise was the entrance to the private campground. The sign at the entrance pointed to a road going straight up a 35%+ grade for 200 yards. Put the truck in 4WD low (wife said she wasn't looking) and pulled no problem. The truck has the auto-lock and worked great. Probably used a gallon of gas.
The owner said they come down the hill with their tractor if they hear a racing engine and spinning tires.
The trip average for 500 miles driving was 12.5mpg. Saw 15.4mpg on a flat stretch during the return. Very pleased considering my lead foot, though truck had much more to give.
The integrated brake controller is the best feature. No panic stops, though close and the controller worked great to stop the truck and trailer, especially down steep grades. Also, the tow/haul mode gets credit for really slowing down the rig (in lieu of the brakes) on long descents.
Four of my friends had 350/450 diesels with heavier loads and no problem tackling the campground entrance.
The F250-F450's are great trucks.
I remember the first time my automatic downshifted when I was going down a grade while towing. It scared the bejeebers out of me! I was totally not expecting it.
