my truck has a 4.6L and it keeps dying. so i got the alternator checked on the truck and it passed. so i replaced tha battery with a new one. that seemd to fix it but my battery light still comes on, but only when im above 2500rpm. seems too charge at low rpms. so my question would be: do alternators do that? can they give out when they pass a certain rpm or is there a sensor that is failing some where.
My 1999 4.6 does the same thing but at a higher RPM like 4000 round about. I have been told that it is a tale tale sign of impending alt. failure. My truck is not my daily driver, I have a ricer for that, so I will wait and fix mine when it quits charging completely. I think that yours is much farther gone than mine. I would seriously consider a new one.
Try a new Gatorback belt. This seems to be the brand name most recommended by other FTE users here. If the belt doesn't get rid of the battery light above 2500 RPM, then you may want to remove the altenator and have it bench tested.
If you are still having the dying problem, it may be a bad IAC. Try starting the truck, holding the gas peddle down just a little bit. If it starts and does not die, then it is most likely the IAC. Good luck!
