water outlet

i have a 400 that came out of a 79 F250 that i am building. i was looking online today at advance auto parts website and i noticed that all the water outlets have threaded holes on them. what are these holes for. when i got my motor it was in bad shape, and it had no water outlet on it. if it matters i am not using any of the OE emissions junk. thanks

Temperature vacuum switches for the vacuum advance and temperature senders. Most people don't have any idea what is OE emissions "junk" and what isn't and how to make the engine controls function properly.

ok so i bought a water neck today and it has a threaded hole on top and one on the right side. the water neck also came with two plugs to cap off either or both of the holes. so what needs to go where? do i need to use both outlets or just one or neither?

Look up the emission control diagrams for your application. You will need both, one for the vacuum switch and another for whatever temp sender is required for your instruments.
