trailer hitch

Howdy, I want to install a tow hitch on my truck and would like to know up to what year are they interchangegable with a 66.
At the scrap yards you tell people its a 66 and they automatically say theres nothing for it, if I go looking for a 72 I may find one.
Thanks
Lui

LMC carries new reciever hitches for 66's in the correct width.

I used a hitch from a 79 ans carefully torched out the tube shortened it to the 34" slick frame then rewelded it back together. Hauled my trailer 2700 miles from PA to here without a "hitch"

Lui, You can use the 72 year as a reference. It was the last year in the series of chassis. I purchased mine from Leonard Buildings & Truck, the fellow measured the chassis and came back with hitch in hand and installed it.

And as Garbz says it has worked with out a hitch.

I took one that was for a '90s model chevy 1500 truck, cut it down(width), welded it back together, bolted it to my frame then welded it to my frame. It is there forever!

I am glad that some of you have had success modifying existing hitches by cutting and welding them.

I would hope this forum doesn't appear to endorse this practice. The liability could run very high, for a faulty welded hitch. New ones can be bought daily for less than $150.00. IMHO

I looked at some hitch maker web sites and saw that they list a model that fits 63 thru 72 so I guess it will not be a big ordeal gettin one.
thank you all very much

I'd have to agree with John. Found one for $135. http://search.cartserver.com/search/search.cgi?cartid=a-9041&bool=AND&category=combo_makemodel&maxhits=20& keywords=1965&keywords_2=FORD.F-100+&GO=GO%21
That would be a good investment considering the price to repair/replace your trailer, boat, etc if you are like me and can't weld as good as a pro.

If you have the right tools you can make something just as well as a robot did or better! I cut it correctly(Angles), then welded it together correctly, actually better than the robot did it. It was a free part that just needed to be modified to work on my truck. Its now better than it was when it left the manufacture. But I understand ya'lls worries about some folks abilities.
