F150 to 2003 Excursion

Just wanted to post on here since i was posting over at the f150 column for years. I sold the f150 and bought a 2003 excursion a week ago. Im learning new things about it every day, but figured i would post this in hopes of learning more about the truck. Its like a said a 2003, has 66,000 on the ticker, 4 wheel drive, and a V-8(5.4). I see alot about the diesels and V-10 but havent seen alot about the v-8's yet. I would have rather gotten a diesel, but could not afford the payments on one, so i went with a V-8 instead of the V-10. I figured it would do a little better on gas mileage and it was the least expensive and lower mileage of the 3 i had my eye on.Does anyone else have a V-8 and how do you like it? Been a good truck for you?the f-150 had a 4.6 in it so this is a different ball park for me, but shouldnt be a problem as for i am mechanically inclined. Ive wanted one of these (excursion) since the 1st year they came out, just a shame that they quit making them. Havent really towed anything with it yet, My boat will be the 1st thing though as soon as its up and running. Like to hear some comments and opinions on the excursions, preferably the V-8's if you all dont mind.Thank you

close to 6,000 lbs.Its a 93 crownline 20', V-8 merc,30-35 gallon fuel tank. All gear, trailer and fuel came out to a little shy of 6. The excursion is rated for 8900, but thats just a factory rating, im sure it will handle more than that

yeah the truck will but the motor really won't. 6k lbs is probably pushing that truck pretty hard after you load it with people and gear. Probably will be alright on flat ground but on any kind of hill you will be shifting for sure with that weight behind you. We had an '02 expedition with the 5.4 in it. Great truck overall but wasn't a fan of towing our 20' Four Winns behind it. It really worked with 4 people a dog and that boat. Just my own experience. We now have an '05 Excursion 6.0L diesel. Now I laugh at 4 people 2 dogs and the same boat. I still get 15+ mpg on the 800 mile trip that I'm taking in 2 days.

You Should Have Looked For An Ex With A V10 Or 6.0, The Ex Is Too Heavy At 7,400lbs (dry) To Move Around With A 5.4. You Probably Have The Same Mpg As A V10 Owner As The 5.4 Has To Work Harder To Move The Ex Around. A V10 Ex Will Tow As Much As 10,500lbs Loaded. You May Not Find Too Many 5.4 Excursion Owners In The Forum.
