4 wheel drive releasing problem
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Aug-02 AT 00:53 AM (EST)]I have a 1997 Ext cab 4x4 truck with the off-road package and 130,000 miles on it and I am starting to have some problems with it. Here's one. When I put it in 4 wheel drive and then take it out, it does not release out of 4 wheel right away like it used to. I try stopping, reverse, you name it. It just releases it when it wants to. Is there something I can lube or clean to help solve this problem without taking it in to be serviced?

When engaging or releasing the 4x4 I wait until you hear the click, click and then feel the axle engage. Are you taking your time in the disengagment part and making sure you don't have a load on the front axle when you disengage?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-Aug-02 AT 00:48 AM (EST)]It actually engages fine (I can hear the clunk and feel it when it engages). The disengage is what takes way too long. I have 130k on the truck now and this started happening recently. It used to disengage easily (coasting, etc.). I haven't been doing anything different lately.
