Well the 4.6l is on the ground and the 5.4l is in the frame rails.. exaust is hooked up and so is the tranny.... Have a few questions and statements to make about the swap so far..
First the Flex plate for a 4r70 and a 4r100 are the same...my 5.4l had a 4r100 behind it before i got it, and it is now hooked up to my 4r70...
You can take the engine out with the intake still on and also not unbolt the body from the the frame...wasnt bad at all....but it is much easier to take the intake off for clearance reasons...
I ended up using the 4.6l exaust manifolds and the snorkle that connects the throttle body to the intake manifold... basically the only reason i did this is because the 5.4l exaust manifold on the passenger side points in completley wrong direction... and to use the 4.6l manifolds i had to use the 4.6l egr valve and so on... But it shouldnt affect the power at all with the manifolds because the diameter of the exaust on the head is smaller than either of the manifolds diameters...so maybe a little loss of scavenge...but not really any flow...????
My question is...on the 4.6l behind the water pump and alternator there is a little box with a plug in, what is that...my 5.4l dosnt have one... it looks like a actuator that changes the volume of the intake...and it apears to run the intire length of the plentum....
Also on my harness, on the same strand that runs down to my oil pressure sensor next to the oil filter there is another plug that wasnt pluged in on my 4.6l and also appears that it wont on my 5.4l... what was this used for?????? I thought maybe it was for the front diff...some sort of electronic locker...its just the right length to go there...anyways...
Feel free to ask any questions about the swap and i will post all the pics when im done...should be next saturday for the rest of the install and a week after that for the chassie dyno...
Sounds like you're coming right along, O Industrious One. I'd have to research the "little box with a plug in" question but mine has that dangling plug by the oil filter adapter too. It doesn't go to my front 4x4 axle either ????
Ya, i wonder if its for the LS for the F-250 LD package...i know they came with one for the snow plow package... but i doubt that it was electronic..so i dunno...
But ya man between me and my old man there isnt much we cant do...hell we built the "RECLINEOLINER"....its a Lazy boy recliner with a honda spree motor... Its so much fun... 2 wheels in front and the spree chassie underneath... built for a friend that had his hip replaced... its so smooth and sleek lookin...
If theres anybody out there between his good old fashion car and engine knowlege and my Mechanical Engineering Degree we can face it all..
The computer is the tough part and we have it figured to...(I hope..)
Any thoughts on the actuator beneath the 4.6l intake?
mostly yes... the exaust is the worst..but using the 4.6 maifolds made it easy....if i decide later i want somthing different i will buy headers and take them to an exaust specialiest and have him put true duals on my truck...
But ... for a cheap install and cheap HP for me... i only paid 300 bones for it... and i pulled the oil pan and i could see the Cross hatching on all the cylinder walls still...so the motor is still in pristien condition...
That connector next to the oil pressure sending unit is for the optional speed sensitive steering, and would plug into a solenoid on the back of the PS pump.

Didn't know that was even an option on these trucks ....... . Thanks for clearing that question up!

The same underhood harness is used on the Expedition, and that's an option on those. It can be added on an F150 with the right PS pump and changing a simple software switch in the EEC programming.

Thanks Johnny.... what would speed senistive steering do?... make it smoother?? Did many trucks get it?
Speed sensitive steering gives full assist at low speeds, and reduces assist at cruising speeds for a more "steady,on-center" feel.
It's standard on most cars and some Expedition trim packages, and optional on alot of them.
JL
Speed sensitive steering tightens the steering at lower speeds and loosens the steering at high speeds to help prevent over correction when your hauling butt.
No its a plastic box with a wire running out of it...and it looks like some sort of actuator....maybe for variable volume on the intake...idunno... if you have a 4.6l handy just look behind the alternator and water pump... its bolted to the intake manifold ...kinda hard to describe..
