I know that most people say that the overhead console (99'-04')is very inaccurate, but is that true for everybody? Please tell how it is with tuner and stock.thanks for the input.
Stock it was off by 1.5 MPG It showed High. With the Hypertech Programmer it shows about 4.5 better then actual. with the DP Tuner it shows about 3 MPG better then actual. Actual right now with the DP Tuner it's 13 MPG.

what does yours read normally?
just curious
I will post mine as soon as I can. I think it is off, not sore how much, though
I've checked my fuel mileage with every tank since I bought the truck, and mine has been right on. It may be .1 or .2 off sometimes, nothing to write home about.
They all vary fantastically. Some will be spot on, others will be off by 1 or 2, many (mainly with tuners or something similar) will be off by a few or more mpg. Mine tends to read 3-5 mpg over what I hand calculate.
Mine seems to be dead on with AVG mpg, however, my range-o-meter is a teller of tall tales. That bugger will tell me I lost 30 miles off my range when i have only gone 3 or 4 on teh e-way. One thing is for certain, when it says I have a 0 mile range it is telling the truth!
Today I held both buttons till is said cal and then went down a hill and said I was getting 50 yah right
Nick
If you reset the computer, at a high speed and do not touch the throttle, your computer calculates fuel consumption of idle vs. your current speed. 50mpg is achievable if you are coasting down a hill without touching the gas, but AS soon as you touch the throttle it should "plummit back to reality"
If you are intrigued by this concept, mash the gas to the floor and reset it at wide open. You'll be lucky if it youi are getting 3, but as soon as you let off it'll shoot up to about 9
Mine is consistently high by about 0.5 mpg. This may not seem like much, but at 10 mpg around town with my 4.30 geared, 7500lb, V10 truck that comes out to a 5% error. And my miles to empty is inaccurate also; I've gone 30 to 50 miles after is said 0 miles to emtpy and never ran out of gas. This is with stock truck.
Not sure if this is true for the fords, but on my lincoln the average MPG was calculated for the last 500 miles unless you reset the computer manually. This may explain the variance that some of you see.

AS SOON AS i reset my computer it sets everything to 0.00
