16quarts? Where did you get it? How much? Thanks alan.
Maybe you can help me i dont think you have seen my current prob. I just replaced my hayden cooler with a tru cool, and i replaced the bypass valve today. Temps still got to 180 today, they dropped back down on a long straight to 160-170 alot faster than they ever have. The tranny operates exactly like its supposed to it just runs hot. Any suggestions besides changing the pump and TC? TC lockup kit? Sonex Kit? I will probably now add a fan to try and keep the temps down. But i really think its 100k on a tranny running 37s thats heating up the TC in traffic stop/go. Any thoughts.
With a stock cooler I have yet to see 160 this year (not Towing). I would definitely do a flow test on the pump.

Benny...save your money on the fan...it will only help when you are driving real slow (bumper-to-bumper or back-country). I have a fan and I have tried it in every possible scenario and it makes no difference EXCEPT when you are crawling along at a mile or two an hour - then it helps considerably.
Thats what i was afraid of On the other hand i have replaced a couple trannys just not the 4r100, have you? Anything special, besides im sure it weighs a ton.
Yea from the tranny all the way to the cooler also check to make sure they are routed as far away from the exhaust as possible and the heat shield next to the tranny is not damaged.
Also those temps don't sound too hot 60 -100 above ambient is the normal range and you are inside of that. Turning those big meats I would expect it to be a little warmer than mine and yours is only 10 - 20 degrees hotter.
Thanks for putting my mind at rest, i had a guy look at the situation today and he told me it wasnt bad YET, he said running anything with tires over 33s a guy needs a better TC and a higher output pump. Im just paranoid...PMS...Thanks for your help tomorrow i will tear everything down and make sure atf gets from point a to b without hesitation and flush and fill with synthetic, thanks alan.
ps do you think a TC lockup setup would help me or a sonex kit?
TC slip is a major heat producer and a BTS VB or sonnex kit will raise line pressure and reduce slip during the shift which is another major heat producer.
