FORD ECONOLINE VAN, CUTAWAY CONSOLE CUP HOLDER

FORD ECONOLINE VAN, CUTAWAY CONSOLE CUP HOLDER
I have a 1997 E350 Club Wagon XLT extended, tow pkg. etc.
I have (and several careless mechanics) had to remove the
console cup holder assy. from the dog house cover to access
engine repairs. Consequently the screws that secure the
substructure behind the curved face cover (?) have stripped
out the adjoining plastic threaded mounts on the back of the
face cover (?).
Since OEM replacement of the full assembly (individual parts
not available from dealership) is expensive even where available;
salvage yard consoles are few and trashed.
It would appear to untrained eye that there has been little change
to the position of mounting points on the doghouse. Would other
year model console assemblies fit my '97 doghouse or am I
resigned to an expensive '97 oem replacement?
Thanks in advance/ redirect.

97-07 fit I think.
My 97 has had 3 different versions but I can't tell you what years. They came out of junkyards and by the time I get to them, all these years look the same to me.

I have this now. I store a LOT of crap in this one:

Okay then. My oem part was the second of your posted consoles.
As you would expect from Dorf, that part number was discontinued
eons ago and if I order a newer version and it doesn't fit, they
"can't take it back". If as you say, YOUR VAN IS A '97 and the CONSOLE
(third pic) CLIPPED IN PROPERLY? then it tells me at least the one you
ended up with might be an option. Am I reading you correctly?
If so, then I'm a grateful Christmas camper. Did you have to do any
mods to get it to fit or did it just clip right on? Tks. M.

Great. I understand from Ben@ TASCA that the doghouse cover and
attachment points remained unchanged and other year models will indeed fit.
Shooting for (pic) smaller cup holder. Unfortunately it only comes in grey.
I'll have to talk to some auto parts people about the best paint to use that
won't scuff off to paint it beige as the entire interior is light brown.
Thanks again for taking the time and detailed assistance. Have a joyous Christmas.

I vaguely remember a dye that might work.
Dye is better than paint allegedly because it won't come off.
The fun part is finding the right dye for the plastic you have and finding out exactly what plastic you have. Also, you need something large enough to submerge the part you are dyeing because you have to use heat to dye..
Dye actually penetrates while paint only covers.
Plastic dipping may also be another option.

Dye for plastic automotive interior parts. I can see an entire heard of auto parts employees all w "deer in the headlights" responses to that one. Altho it makes sense the "fun part" leaves a lot to be desired. Another thought is low density bedliner spray.
Or Duratex. Works on birch speaker enclosures. Tho a farther fetched but just as costly
venture. Somewhere out there is a tan piece not advertised...

Bed liner sounds good too but depending on manufacturer may be a bit rough to the touch. That is why I thought of plastic-dip
Tectonic says he has a tan one. Maybe he can provide the numbers off his to help you?
