I just started having my dummy light come on for the alternator. It would come on for about 3 minutes then go off. It would do it 6 or 7 time a day while on our trip. I just replaced the 6 months ago.I stop and had it checked for codes at the same shop I had replace the alternator. non found. It did it mostly when my trailer was hooked up. twice when not. any ideas
Yep, I would say it is headed south and is a POS since it is so new. Drive to parts store and have it tested unless you have an AE. Can also check it with a multimeter while someone turns on lights, ac, revs etc. Is your belt in good shape and tight and aligned? Check all your cables too.
I found a very reliable and low cost device to monitor my charging system. This device saved me from being stuck hundred of miles away from home in the desert last year when my alternator failed at night. It warned me soon enough that there was a problem with the alternator that I was able to turn around and make it back home before the batteries went dead. The stock dash meter never moved from its normal spot, and the battery light never came on. It plugs into the cigarette lighter receptical or a power point and has 3 lights (red, yellow and green), a bar graph and a numeric voltage display and is very sensitive and responsive. It cost only about $15 at WalMart and the latest ones are even back lit so you can see the voltage display at night. I have one in my boat, toybox trailer and both vehicles. I even tested a quads electrical system with it.

Pretty said a $15 Wally gadget is far superior to the retarded gauge and alt warning light eh? I found the same to be true of my patrol car. Gauge showed it charging fine, but AC was cycling off due to low alt output. Hooked up AE and it tattled on that lazy alt. Off to garage and showed them. Of course they had to put it on their Snap On where it promptly failed too. Got a new one and been fine since.
