Autometer Steering Column Guage Pod

I just bought a Autometer Gauge pod for my 2002 F250. The pod is supposed to replace the upper half of the steering column surround. Has anyone installed one of these before? Autometer part # 15011

I expected the housing for the steering column to simple come apart in upper/lower sections but the upper piece is molded all the way around the key hole. Any idea how'd I'd get this off without destroying the stock piece? I shined a flash light around the tumbler and couldn't find a way to pull it. Any help?

Thanks!

Are you saying that it didn't come with instructions? Where did you buy it from? I recently purchased an Autometer triple underdash pod from ITP and it came with autometer install instructions. I know this is no help but just curious. I will look up the column disassembly instructions here soon if someone else does not chime in.

I've got the instructions now. I have to turn the key in the on position and use a small punch to get the tumbler out. It looks like I'm gonna have to fab this thing up to make it nice again. Lame!

Oh yeah, no real instructions. Just some notes from autometer.

Man, I looked at some pics of that thing. Looks like it would almost pretty much just go over the stock piece like a cover. Have some patience. I know someone here has one of those will give you the 411 on the install. Don't rush in if unsure.

Yeah, they're pretty good at that. Does it call for the top column removal then?

Remove the 3 screws from the bottom half of the strng wheel, remove the strng tilt arm (it unscrews), now remove the bottom half. Turn Key to ON position, using a small srewdriver or a nail, push in on the little ball bearing on the bottom of the key tumbler and the whole assembly will slide out! Now you can remove top half over the gear shifter.
Hope this helps.

Yeah... haha. after looking at everything more carefully, this piece just slides over the top of the existing column cover. Duh...
