Tach problems

My factory tach will work sometimes, and other times it wont do anything. Is this something common on these trucks, or is mine fixing to go out? also is there some kind of easy fix? Any help would be great. THANKS

you most likley need to replace the tac sensor it is the big nut with the two wires coming out of it on the timing gear cover right were the oil filler neck is. i am not sure how much it cost i have never replace one.

Yeah the one in my DD has been doing pretty much the same thing.

Anybody got a part number or even a description of what Ford calls the sensor?

I've tried NapaOnline, PartsAmerica, Autozone and LMC and can't seem to find one.

PLEASE don't tell me it is a StealerShip only part (with a ridiculously inflated price)....

It is VERY easy to change. Unplug the electrical connector first and then I can't remember if it takes a 7/8" or 15/16" open end wrench to start unscrewing it. Once you loosen it up it just threads out by hand.....

I paid about 50 dollars for the last one I bought.

1" wrench to fit the nut.
