New here

Just wanted to say hello. My wife is having twins so we needed something larger and got a 99 Expedition with 104k miles on it. We also have a 94 Ranger and a 99 Explorer and have never had any real problems with them. Im a little conserend about this plug blow out thing but its seems as long as they are tourqed properly It should be allright, is this correct? And what other things should I be looking for?

Thanks
Chris

Welcome and congratulations on your twins! I think two of the other things to look out for is the heater hose leaking on #4 and an oild leak between the head and deck in the same general area.

I ditto those congrats, do you know if your plugs have been changed? If not they will be due very soon. You can go around 100-110k between changes. hkiefus is correct with his precautions, though I myself have not had those issues.
I did have my #1 plug blowout, thank goodness it was the #1 because the head didn't need to be removed to fix the seat with the heli-coil plug kit. The plug took all the threads with it when it blew, so I knew it was seated correctly.
As for changing the plugs, I have always been very careful when replacing mine. I always counter clockwise the plug to try to align the threads, I also use antisieze. Same goes for the coil packs as far as putting silicone around the base to prevent the boot from seating onto the plug. This silicone should come with the COP or be available at the autoparts store. Hope this helps....

Hey ditto on the congratulations for your twins. Also congrats on your new Expo. I know you wont regret it, it's a very dependable, safe, and loyal car. As long as you don't mind feeding it often, that is! I've never had plug problems, but then I've never replaced the plugs on mine. It's got 207Kmiles on it now, I supposed I really need to replace them. The only problems I have had in the 170K miles since I've had it are the EAC, which I learned to clean on this forum, one coil (#1 thankfully), one power window motor, and just yesterday an ABS problem that I'm working through. I know the old girl is starting to get old, can't really replace it until next October, once I pay off my dad's funeral. I cant count the oil changes, I do them every 5K, it's had three brake jobs (done myself) and it's on it's fourth set of tires. I have 20" Harley wheels and goodyear tires on them, they go good for 70 K miles. I think you will be pleased with the durability and performacnce of your expo, I know it's the best vehicle I have ever owned.
