Hello all,
Today I pulled all the valves out on my 352. When pulled, there were different color build ups on them. Some were black, but some actually had a white buildup on them. What causes the white buildup on the valves? The valves with the white buildup were exhaust valves, If that makes a difference. Also, what is a good way to clean up valves? Any especally good solvent for the job? Thanks for the help in advance,
Garrett
No solvent, use wire wheel as suggested. Wear a dust mask, watch fingers. Black deposits=carbon, white=lead (before unleaded fuel) fuel additives. Don't forget to check for play in valve guides, if not too bad they can be knurled or re-sized.
Thanks for the replies. I have another question, too. What is the best way to see if a valve or valve stem is at all bent? I would imagine that even if it was bent just a hair it still wouldnt make a compression tight seal on the valve seat, and you woulnt be able to see that by eyeing it. Or can you? Never done this before, so any help is appreciated
Thanks Garrett
