I finally got around to finishing the carb swap and cam install on my 89 f150 today. I started it and it ran fine but stalled after about 10-15 seconds of running. After it stalls it will start up again and do the same thing. The motor has an edelbrock performer intake, carb and cam and an hei distributor if this helps. Any help would be appreiciated.
I have the regulator cranked all the way up and I can only get 6-7 psi out of it. It will run, but after about 20 seconds the fuel pressure will drop to close to zero and it will stall. I dont have much fuel in the tank, could this have something to do with it?
pull the line off the carb and turn on the pump..see how much fuel you get out of it..let it run for a while see what happens...sounds like a clogged filter to me....but who knows it could be out of gas.........
I replaced the filter and filled up the tank and still no go. I pulled the line off the carb and right when you turn the key, a fair amount of fuel comes out but just for about half a second.
sounds like the pump needs a direct connection............or feed the fuel pump relay some power off the ignition, so when the key is on the relay is on feeding the pump power all the time....by-pass the computer that keeps turning it off.
I guess.....but you are better off using the relay thats all ready there....just feed that power or a ground which ever the PCM uses to turn on the pump.....
