Yeah i got a good question for ya.... I was thinking about slappin on a blower or nos on my truck to compeet in mud boggin. Some friends of mine said that if you want to do that you want lower compression ratio. The motor i had built the motor man told me i have 12:1 compression is this to high to use a blower? will it come all undone or would i be alright?
That is really high for a blower. Blowers work with lower compressions, like 8:5:1. NOS doesn't "need" lower compresion, but you do stand a much higher chance of blowing you block through your hood at your compression. I ran NOS with 10:5:1 with nary a problem for a year and the block wasn't even built for it. To be honest, if you wanted to save your engine it would need to be built to maximize/handle either set-up. If you do go with NOS don't go with too big of a shot, a 100# cheater should do it. Unless you set up your engine for it of course. Good luck and have fun.
I have a 2 stage kit on my dragster. I am running 10.5/1 comp. That engine held a 500 shot. It was built for it though. It still runs great. That car is gone this weekend though.
Remember that NOS (i think) is for flat peddle to floor all the time, and that a 10ld of nitrous will last on average just a little over a minute.(Nitrous takes bout 5lbs a minute (on 100hp shot) and 5lbs left in the bottle is not enough pressure to run it)
Ran a 71 ford mud dragster with a 351c and 12to 1 pistons with 175
horse of nitrous boost for sevral years in the mid 80s basicly I would
win or break. It was very hard on ring and pinion and axels. But the engine took it well, burnt the electrodes off a few plugs and blew a couple head gaskets.
it is great stuff though what a kick in the pants I highly recomend it,get a good fuel pump and forged pistons and go.
Have heard that the crank snout is a weak area for a blower. As for the nos it should fine if you stick to a low hp unit (depends on your motor set up)Right now i added a 100hp super power shot to my boat and it works great.motor has a stock lower end and pistons too.(reason im only at 100hp)the bottle does go fast though.
