replacing my resinator?
my resinator on the end of my tail pipe is rusting away ( i think the water from the rear ac unit is helping it along) what have everyone else done when they had to replace it.
i was thinking of using a straight pipe
i have a 5.4 4x4 01
since i live in buffalo the snow and salt helped in it's death

You might consider factory replacement. It is possible to have an annoying noise inside that might get hard to live with after 500 miles of driving on a trip. If you only drive local in traffic a pipe will probably work out. Just something to consider.

Early model Excursions with the 5.4L have an additional resonator at the end of the tailpipe. 05's do not. That is why I think it would be okay for him to just replace the resonator with a pipe.

I pulled the resonators on my 96 impala (true dual system) and hasd absolutely 0 change in sound. I mean nothing. Those things are supposedly supposed to fine tune the exaust note to get out certain frequencies taht may be annoying. I think they do nothing. At least on my impala they didnt. They were the size of a small cars muffler on each side of the car too!
