newbe questions

Hi, I had a couple of questions that I hope some of you can answer.
Had a question about Oasis but figured it out.

On a used truck is the factory powertrain warranty transferable to new owners.

Do you have to take the cab off or remove the engine to replace the head gaskets and bolts on the 6.0?

How do you clean the turbo and with what? what side are the variable vanes on, intake or exhaust? What side needs to be cleaned?

I have also heard of cleaning the oil cooler, where is it how do clean it and with what. Any help with these newbe questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Factory warranty is 5/100K on the engine anyway--doesn't need to be transfered. No you do not have to remove the cab to replace the headgaskets and bolts. It is easier if you have a lift to pick the cab up with. You can remove it out the front if you pull the bumper and all the coolers, etc. Variable vanes are on the exhaust side of the turbo and I think there is a cleaning procedure in the 6.0 tech folder at the start of this forum. I can't tell you about cleaning the oil cooler. I'm sure it can be done but I don't know how much you'd get out of it. It's located under the engine oil filter on top of the motor.

Thanks for the info, I bought my truck used and it has started to puke alot but doesn't really get hot. Suspect the head gaskets, pulling a 34' toy hauler.

Also the cap on the degaus bottle doesn't seem to hold any pressure at all. Wishful thinking on my part but hoping someone out there had a simple fix that caused the same puking.

Some people have had luck with replacing the cap. That is usually the first thing to try since it is cheap. After that though you are likely looking at either an EGR issue or head gaskets.

I did notice it pukes more when I plug the EGR back on(electrical connector) and the fans kick on more.

I know for a gas engine they make a liquid that will change color if carbon dioxide is escaping from the coolant. I imagine it should work on diesel engines to. Anybody out thier now of an easier way to detect a blown head gaskets?

That is or was one of the tests that used to be run to determine blown headgaskets on a 6.0. I know Snap-on sells a kit, but your tech should have one also.

Be sure to check out the TSB full text section at the top of this page for fixes. Puking could possibly be just overfill of bottle. TSB on this. Just keep it filled to the very bottom of front of tank when cold. If higher it could just overflow from expansion ( they just didn't figure enough expansion for this large of engine when designing)
