I have a 86 5.8l 351w
i recently took out the brass fuel filter out of my 4180 holley carb, and instead hooked up a rubber fuel line with a clear glass fuel filter. i started the engine up and it shot fuel everywhere, it seams like the pressure is extremely high for some reason. what should my fuel pressure be, how do i check it, and if it's high, how do i fix it?
help on this would be greatly appreciated.
A carb'd vehicle should have no more than 7psi. If it's any higher than that, you can get a fuel pressure regulator from a parts store and adjust the line pressure down. The fuel pressure regulators work great if you have electric fuel pumps that're rated at a higher than stock pressure, but it's not really needed if you have a stock mechanical fuel pump. If the old mechanical pump is bad, just buy a new one.
Are you sure that the fuel filter isn't blocked inside? The fuel pump probably isn't putting out more pressure than it did before, but if the fuel is blocked from going into the carb, it's gonna spray out any small opening and seem like it's coming out with more pressure than normal.

thanks, i fixed the fuel pressure problem, but i'm still getting a little leaking around the accelorator pump, i just finnished rebuilding the carb, and i can't figure out why it would be leaking here.
