howes meaner kleener

Hi all
I have been using howes meaner kleener and have noticed a big difference in the way my truck runs and sounds. I have the 6.0 in a 2005 f350. Has any one else used this and if so how do you like it. Don't know if it helped my mpg yet or not. Thanks in advance

I have heard howes is a very good product and I've seen lots of displays of it in truck stops but haven't had a chance to try it. What does this particular version of the product do?

Well they guarantee double your money back if you dont see 4.8% fuel economy improvement. I just run the regular howes treatment, its all I run anymore. I would like to try some of this meaner cleaner though.

LOL--I wonder what kind of records you have to keep to get that guarantee. 4.8% @16.7mpg = 17.5mpg. I can destroy that with one good run down the block. I sometimes wish the old Predator was safe--I could get 21.5 with it puking the whole time tho and that at 65mph.

a-rod, you've had problems with Powerservice white bottle gelling? I ran it last winter when we had a couple weeks below 0 and never had a problem with gelling or getting my truck to start. (I was running 15W40 oil and didn't have a block heater so I was impressed)

Powerservice will gell around -5 degrees sometimes, happened to me, And I cant begine to tell you how many other people around here have gelled up on powerservice. Howes or BGs is the only way to go below 0.

WE get alot of -0 days so I hear lots of storys about gelling and what works and what doesnt. And everybody and there mother drives a diesel in my area.

a-rod,

Your fuel provider is failing you. In Canada there are many that dont use any additives and dont freeze up and we are colder than you. I will agree that Howes is a better anti-gel though due to its big-rig following it has to be.

Lets not confuse the two products from HOWES.

The regular stuff (light gold in color) is the anti-gel and lubricity formula that is very common. Not sure if it conatains cetane boost/improves or not.

The "Meaner Cleaner" is just that... it cleans up the fuel system and is not an anti-gel but just more concentrated cleansers and lubricity agents. Accept for a high price... it seems fine and not sure if it did anything for me... but since I use an additive in every tank, I assume I have no build-up anyways?

Further to duffman I found no problem running without additive in our Canadian winters. I have gone weeks at a time near the Alaska border for hunting trips in well below freezing levels with windchill and etc.

I don't think my fleet of 6L's in Alberta oil sands use additves either in the winter, but I am not sure and will look into it.

Thanks for the information as it is informative.

I use the power cleaner stuff in my 650 hp lobster boat. With it i use 4.3 gallons per hour.Without it i use 4.7 gallons per hour. This is actual dock to dock time as calculated through the engines hour meter. In my new 07 diesel i just let the first tank go untreated ,according to the lie o meter as you guys call them it averaged about 14 mpg.Second fill up treated with 6oz of meaner power cleaner has not dipped under 16mpg.Thats all around town.I don't get to do much highway driving...so i can't report on that.In the boat i have used it for the last,8 months or so and has worked well.I don't know what you guys pay for it but down the dock it's $13 probably high but it treats up to 500 gallons. My weekly fill up on the boat is around 300 gallons i just dump the whole bottle in as it does have a cetane boost of 2-4 points. It has worked well on the boat and i think it's working well in the new rig!I

Many of my friends here are fisherman by trade and own there own diesel boats. They swear by addictives for all the advertised benefits. I just got off the phone with my buddy that sells there diesel and addictives to these boats; they're using the racor brand. There logged boat fuel economy is similar to rnrlobsta claims (>6% improvement). So with large fuel consumption in boats it saves money in a hurry with the benefits of prolonging engine life.

However I tried a couple different brands of adictives in the past and seen no observable fuel economy benefits. Maybe I did not give it a fair chance and in particular I have not tried the meaner cleaner.

I wonder if these addictives have greater fuel economy benefits to harder working engines such as truckers and boats and for us light duty trucks the benefits may be for the "dirtied systems" that got cleaned from the addictive.

I will try the "meaner cleaner" to see if it make a differnce as it has been over a year since I used any addictives. I have over 100k and it may worth to give a little cleaniness in my fuel system and components anyways. I log all my fuel economy manually so seeing improvments should be obvious if they exist from this product.

I am not sure where I can find the "meaner cleaner " in Canada but I live on the Washignton US border so if someone can advise where I can get it I would greatly appreciate it.
