Fuel pump relay problem

Hey guys, brand new to the site, had a question, maybe someone could help me out? On my '87 Ranger it had stalled out a couple weeks back, wouldn't turn back on. After some troubleshooting we figured it was the fuel pump relay, replaced it and all was fine until it happened again. Anyone know why it would short out like that only after a week or so? How can i fix it? It gets power when we directly hook up a battery to it, so the pump is good, what could it be?

The emergency shutoff is good, that's what we thought it might be the first time, I'll go back and check the wiring again, thanks for the quick reply! I'll get back to it and check it now, letcha know what happens.

You were right on the money, it was the connector from the pump to the relay, it was a little loose, but it's all good now. Thanks so much!
