Hello I am new to the fourm. I am look at purchashing an 05 4x4 diesel excursion and had a few question.
What should i look for when inspecting the truck?
Any known problems?
What is the difference between the eddie bauer and limited?
How bad are the 6.0 engine.
Any suggested upgrades to do if I get the truck?
Get the VIN # and ask someone on this board to run an Oasis report on the vehicle. THis should give you an idea if it has been in the shop (Ford) alot and for what. I have the 7.3 PSD but from what I hear that the later 6.0 is better than when it came out in 03. Not quite sure about the difference between the EB and Limited, I think the Limited has a few more options, and the EB had 2 tone seats, but again I'm not positive. Upgrades that I have done are; new shocks and a Hellwig anti sway bar. Well worth it. Next on the agenda are new front rotors to replace the warped ones from the factory.
I cruised this forum alot as well as The Diesel Stop to helpmake the decison to go with the diesel Excursion. THere are a lot of great guys on this board that can help you with most any problem. Good Luck, you will love the vehicle.
I just bought a 2005 6.0 PSD Limited. I am really going to love the truck once all of the kinks are worked out. Everything is in tiptop shape but the ball joints are tight - common occurance on these models. Drive it around 45-55 mph to see if it seems to "wander" on the road. Do you need to overcorrect the steering and then it seems to wander the corrected way too far? If it is still under warranty, it will be covered.
Get all the online reports you can buy on the vehicle. Take it to a mechanic.
I am definatley going to love the PSD as it has lots of power.
Good luck and read this forum every night for some excellent information.
I have an 04 Excursion 6.0 limited. And I love it to death it is the best suv ever made from the towing to the space in the inside. I would hands down buy it and for the 6.0 its proved its self to me by towing my 12,000 toy hauler beautifly,
Nick
