I'm a little confused about my battery situation lately. I replaced my old battery because it was not holding a charge. So I bought a new one. Worked great for two weeks. Then all of a sudden it would not hold a charge. So the local part store replaced it for free. Question is, Do you think there maybe something in my truck causing this to happen? The alternator is charging at 14.5 volts. I don't know if I can do a resistance check? With the battery disconnected I get about 1k Ohms on the battery cables. I don't know what to do next?
You definately can't do a resistance check, especially with an ohmmeter in high current low voltage circuits.
If you're 14.5 volts at the battery terminals while running, then your charging system is probably working right, and perhaps you got a deffective battery.
I always check new batteries with a hygrometer and only buy the type that can be checked so that I can see if all cells measure the same.
If a new battery has a weak cell that doesn't match the others, it soon deteriorates because it is constantly being overcharged.
