428 into a 58
Ok so heres my deal. I scored an awesome deal where i got a 58 shortwide in great shape but no motor or trans. A 63 ford with a 428 motor and c6 trans was thrown into the deal. I want to know how hard it is going to be and what else if anything i am going to need (besides tools,) to put the motor into the 58. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. thanx!

It means fabbing ALL new motor & trans mounts, re-locating them in the corresponding place in order to support the new engine & auto trans.
New radiator, hoses, trans cooler & lines to go w/ them as well.
If the truck doesn't allready have a Auto Trans Steering column, you'll have to acquire one or cut a hole in the trans inspection plate for a floor shifter.
Upgraded electrical to go w/ the new engine.
New Propeller Shaft.
And that's just off the top of my head.

Actually, you can get a bellhousing that will bolt to the FE and bolt up to the original bellhousing motor mounts. At that point, you'll want to fabricate a front cradle to hang the front of the engine on the crossmember just ahead of the front pulley. If you hunted, you could find a bellhousing for an automatic, then you'd be looking for a FMX auto, a good transmission. Petty much a stock lash-up. Not that exotic.

if the engine is original to the 63 Ford, then it is not a 428. the 428 was first available in 66 only.
probably a 390 if is the original engine to that car.
as for installation, probalby the easiest way to go if you are keeping the original front end, is to buy a engine crossmember from one of the many vendors on this board. it is a simple bolt in or even weld in design that uses the engines motor mounts. you will have to fab up a transmission crossmember and more than likely have to remove the original rear crossmember for clearance, but that is a fairly straight forward project.
if you do have a 428, good for you. they are a very desirable engine and fairly sought after (though not as sought after as the 428CJ engine).
good luck
