I'm 99% sure I'm picking up 3 inch lift front leaf springs from an '80 f250 to get the trucks butt in the air. My idea up front is just replacing the coil springs.
My question is, will just the coils and the new leaf packs in the rear be fine, or will this require any other modifications/replacements to be successful.
front leaf packs are different length than rears. i swapped in a pair of rear packs in the front of my 85 F250 and gained about 4" (stock F150 rears with overload removed) and i had to fab some mounts. if i remember right it was about 3-4"
hmm... The fronts measured out at 53" x 3" with I think 5 leafs in it.
The rears I have now are the same measurement with 4 leafs.
Will just replacing the coil springs up front be fine?
they measured the same?
let me make sure i understand.... you are wanting to put lift springs from the FRONT of an 80 F250 into the REAR of a 93 F150?
also, take into account that lift springs tend to stretch out more than a stock pack b/c of the increased spring flex. dunno if that might be the problem but something doesnt sound right
did you measure the front springs with no load and the rear springs with a load (on the truck) ?
They're definetely 3 inchs wide, it was raining so I didnt feel like crawling under the truck on gravel to get an exact length measurement. Lemmie remeasure in the morning and I'll get back to you.
And yes the plan is to put front springs (entire leaf pack) from an 80 f250 in place of my rear spring pack on a 93 f150 and place new coils in the front.
call me cheap but if I can get this done for what it'll cost ($60+coils, maybe $200 total) I'll be happier than all hell

cheap is the only way to go! thats why i do all my own work (minus gear setups ) b/c i can buy the tools and do it myself and come out cheaper in the long run! plus i love good quality tools!
thats cool man. i just wanted to give you a heads up that the front and rears (to my knowledge) do not match up length wise! i hope for your sake i am wrong though!
Centering pin might not be in the right place, either.
Cutts, you should try gears. They really aren't that bad after you do a couple sets. Speaking of cheap: I called about a shim set for my D60 rear when I was swapping in my used gears. They wanted too much for just a shim set, so I carefully smashed and cut aluminum foil and cans to make my setup Still holding up after 4 years with a locker and 36s, so it can't be all bad
