I have a simple question, about how long does it take to put in a motor i got the motor back from the motor shop and its sittin in my house collecting dust. Im woundering about how long give or take would it take to put this motha in thanks
Depends on the year vehicle, what's in the engine bay now, how different is the engine that you're putting in the truck, are the wiring harnesses marked for easy and quick hookup? It'll take you between 4 hours and six months depending on the complexity, number of helpers, and number of problems. If you're dropping it into an vacant engine bay, and all the mounts are in place, it should take less than an hour to bolt it in, and then maybe another hour to wire her up!!
its a 94 ford f-150 had a inline 6 puttin in a v8 the motor is out there will ne no wireing becuase its a carb motor going in have all the motor mounts and everything because iv been calling around to have someone else do it and they are like 5 hrs to a full day and that would cost way to much i didnt think it was a big job just set and go but im not sure im new to this i know so far nothing has ben set and go lol
It also goes quicker if you have the old tranny out and swap trannies before installing...if you're going to an older carbed motor, then you probably have the trannies swapped already. Sitting it in, bolting it up and wiring shouldn't take you more than 2-3 hours. I assumer your radiator is in, then it's hook up the water hoses, put on the fan, put on the fan shroud, hook up the gas, hook up the throttle linkage, transmission linkage, drive shaft, put fluids in, hook up exhaust, tighten motor mounts, hook up ignition, crank it and run!!!
Yeah, it's a heckuvalot easier than changing the cam and heads on a motor that is already in the vehicle, then tuning, accessorizing, breaking in the cam, finding out that the stupid thermostat is not seated, and it's causing a geyser under the hood. I can wholeheartedly attest to that. By the way, slik, have you ever seen a more assnine location for a thermostat/waterneck than we have on our beloved Windsors? I can't beleive the stupidity, and the utter disregard for human suffering showed by the people who placed that water neck where it can't reached with any non-surgical, decent-effort attempt. argh!

I have the timing cover in the way, the bolts barely go in, and you can't put a wrench on them until they're threaded 1/2" into the hole. You have a 351, with the 9.5 inch deck, that .9 inches of extra height is exactly what I am in need of. Imagine your water neck, drop it an inch so it wedges itself nicely into a little nook in the timing cover, so that unless you're good at surgery, it won't go in without removing the water pump. Check out any 302, we all have the same problem.
