I am trying to install an Xm commander in my 2004 f150. I have installed the pie aux input adaptor to an unused constant on pwer source i found behind the dash. my question is, I am trying to find a power source(wire) that is only on when the key is on(like the radio)
1. is it ill advised to tie into the power lead going to the head unit?
will this cause the fuse to blow or other problems?
2. will it hurt to tie the xm radio into a constant power source as i have found another wire not being used with a constant power to it?
other than forgetting to turn the radio off when i leave the vehicle, will this harm the radio or drain my battery?
Tapping into the power lead to the radio should be fine. That is just letting the unit know when to turn on and off, it really doesn't pull much power through it. I am currently running my Kenwood head unit, PAC steering wheel interface, and Kenwood navigation unit all off the stock radio switched power wire (and full time power wire too actually).
