I need a set of Bull Bars and a Skid Plate for my 2002 Diesel Excursion. I ran over some sticks and they pulled the tranny cooling lines out of my radiator - so I need to prevent this in the future.
Can anyone recommend a set of Bull Bars and Skid Plate that will allow me to climb over logs/sticks and not have this issue? We live on the costs in SC, and have to be able to get in/out in a Huricane situation whihc may down a lot of trees.
The Bull Bars I've looked at don't seem to protect the radiator - and may inhibit the factory fog lights.
I also probaby need about 2" of lift in the front and 1" in the rear ... any recommendations?
I got a Westin bull bumper on mine; $500 CND and has a small skid plate on it but you would need an aux skid also. Any fab could build you one. Pics in my gallery. Search "westin" on google to find suppliers.
A pile of small sticks was enough to rip my bottom hose out (plastic radiator), and the transmission cooling lines. This IS a weak area on Excursions/F250/F350s, as I have checked a few others.
Thanks for the input - the Westins look good - ccan;t decide on chromed stainelss or Black w/ Stainless Skid plate ...
I had a Westin on mine, but then decided to go with a full brush guard. The Westin comes with skid plate and mounts directly to the two bolts on each tow hook... very easy to install with NO drilling or cutting required. I recommend a torque wrench though to make sure everything is fastened properly. The Westin bull bar will not interfer with the factory foglights and you will still have your towhooks as well... Great product... it's sitting in my garage now.
