Adding a Tach
Adding a Tach
One of the things I don't like about the Bronco I have is that it doesn't have a tach. I'd like to have one so I can see when it's dropped out of high idle, when it's hunting for gears and when I am driving harder than my wallet can handle.
How hard is it to add a tach? I would definitely prefer having it in the stock location but I was concerend that I could lose the true odometer reading. I definitely do not want one of those 8 inch ricer tachs that fills half the windshield.
What are my options? The truck is a 95 Bronco XL with automatic and 302.

There is a tach wire running right off the distributer on my 88 efi. It was a pretty simple install. The tach should also come with instructions. I installed mine almost right after I got my Bronco so I don't remember everything but I am sure someone will come along and give you some better step by step instructions.
If you want a stock one like stated you will need a 94 - 95 cluster (92-93 no work and 96 have to change stuff) it will plug right in. After you get bezel off 20 minutes tops. Just replace all bulbs first. And plug the center section (speedo) out of yours to keep miles. One out of a manual is fine you can swap shift indecator from yours.
But its hard to find a cluster unless you have friend at wreckers or know of truck sitting.
It may be expensive. They cost me $50-$75 here.
Good luck
