I posted yesterday about my speedometer working not working, hard shifting and Rear ABS light on. Got good responses but now I find out I have what I think is a 92 body and a 93 running gear.
Went to autozone today and asked for VSS, what they had won't what I saw in the rear pumpkin. They looked up ABS and didn't list one for 92 but did have one for 93. Thats whats on my trucks rear. Bought that one.
The VSS looks like it goes in the transmission. An electrical connection and what looks like a hookup for the speedometer cable. 92 and 93 are same part # for VSS.
I think I'm just gonna replace both of them since we are only talking 30 bucks.
But my question is if I only had to replace one of them which one should it be?
I ran a vin number check here on this site and everything is correct except for engine. Vin check says it should be 351ci.
Its been awhile since I've had to come here and ask for advice but I'm glad ya'll are here. Good advice is hard to come by.
Thanks!!!
As you've found, there are two different parts. The VSS on 87-91 trucks was in-line of the speedometer cable at the tailshaft of the transmission/transfercase. These trucks had a separate sensor in the rear end for the rear ABS. Starting in 92, all vehicle speed information is pulled from the sensor on the rear end. I don't know why the parts stores do not have this in their databases.
will either of these sensors cause the brakes to loose pressure as in the brake pedal going to the floor. as in my truck brakes will stop then the pedal will go to the floor.
