While changing my fuel filters I noticed a little oil leaking between the transmission and the engine block
Would this be a rear main leak? What would other symptoms of a rear main leak be? <O</O I also notice under my turbo, on the top of my engine there seems to have been some small oil leakage from the turbo. <O</O Warranty would cover I am at only ~31K miles?
Pretty much all oil leaks on the 6.0L eventually drain down and drip off the bellhousing. Do a search and you will find many threads on this. The small oil leak by your turbo could very well be the cause of the oil on the bellhousing. I beleive that the normal cause for the small leak by the turbo is the crank case vent, but I can't remember for sure.
Oil on the bellhousing could be one of almost a dozen things. You'll need to take it to a dealership so that they can put dye in your oil to really diagnose where it is coming from. Then if it's a rear main seal, or rear engine cover gaskets, etc, they'll tell you if they need to pull the motor.
That's where you really need to ask yourself if it's worth it!!! I had mine done since it was under warranty and now I wish I would've just left well enough alone!! My truck now leaks 5x as much oil as it did before which means it only got worse and now I really have a problem. My gut feeling before was if it's not hitting the ground or puddling on the ground, leave it alone.....I should've listened to my gut feeling!
But do get the dye so that you at least know what's wrong.
Thanks guys, I realy doubt if it is serious given that it isnt hitting the ground but I really hate having it smell like burnt oil when it gets warm so I am taking it in to the dealer
