E7FE Heads

I pulled these heads off my currently Xtreme Energy cammed, Windsor Jr. headed 302. I know that the casting numbers are supposed to start with either a C,D,E, or I guess F, followed by a number. The only place I found any number like this was on the non-machined underside, the part that hangs over the lifter valley. The code was E7FE. The only thing I can gather from this is 1987. I bought this engine as a remanufactured long block from autozone, the heads are closed chamer, mid-sized valves, and pedastol-type rockers. *Shock*, the Ford heads ate up a head gasket at right around 20,000 miles. So I replaced them with the Windsor Jr.s, equipped with ARP's finest studs, and Fel-Pro's best head gasket (1011-2). Can anybody tell me about the heads I have sitting in my garage, and how much I should ask for them at the machine shop?

Thanks for your response,
The TorqueKing

John, As you know, those heads were first cast in 1987. That same casting number was used in many aplications until I think 93. Not sure on that. Anyhow, they were real common in 5.0 Mustangs. I had a 90 GT that came with those heads. I know you don't care for factory heads, but they actually aren't that bad of a design, compared to what was used from the mid 70's up. Not compared to aftermarket of course. Since they are so abundant, the value is pretty much whatever you can get somebody to pay. A couple hundred on e-Bay isn't far fetched. I gave my set away when I switched to TFS. They were the hot setup at the time, as the other choices weren't available at the time.

thanks, Steve, I'm going to see if I can get a machine shop to buy them from me, they're not bad heads, I agree. They even have closed chambers, but they blew a head gasket, so I'm sure that they'll need to be milled, and have new valve seals installed, since after I rebuilt mine with the Windsor Jr.s, they use no oil at all.

Thanks,
