Exhaust Question

I put it in this section rather than the 300 section because its more of a styling opinion question.
I decided im gonna go with the pacesetter headers from summit racing for my '77 300. Im stuck on exhaust though. I read somewhere that the 300 sounds bad w/ the 40 series from flowmaster. I want to go with dual 40's but i cant decide if i should go with them under the cab and ending there (the OEM look) or go with a full cat with the pipes coming out the back on either side of my fram-mount hitch (installed by previous owner).
What do you 73-79 owners think? I would also appreciate any sound clips of the said setup (or yours) or any pics of them.
thanks in advance,
jeremy

I have just 1 or 2 pics in my gallery of my exhaust, but only at the motor and where it exits behind the rear tire. I like the sound of the 40 series, it's just personal preference. Some think the 300 sounds like a mad bumble bee coming down the road with the 40 series on it. I was going to run duals, but I decided to run 2 2-1/4" downpipes into 1 - 3" at the firewall, and 3" all the way back behind the rear wheel with a 5" SS tip, so it looks just like my Powerstroke's exhaust. I have a single 3" SS Slimline muffler midway back, and I love how it sounds. By running 2 into 1, I also eliminated the need for a crossover pipe to balance the system. Just another thought?. Below is a video of a 300 with the 50 series?

Just my preference - whatever you do ( single or duals / front or rear exit ) I'd put 3" or 4" looong tips on the exhaust. That will deepen the tone and get away from the 'tuner' bumble bee sound. My OTHER truck ('91 Tracker) got a cat-back exhaust. Went from 2" to 2.25" pipe / 18" glaspak / 24" x 4" tip and it sounds like it has a V6. Not bad for a 1.6L I-4. My '75 F-250 Sc went from stock 2.25" single to Flowmaster long-tube headers / 2.5" pipe and Thrush 33" x 2.5 glaspak and 24" x 4" tips exit in front of the rear wheels. Deep/slight growl/ not loud but definitely not stock. Fairly quiet except when I do a hard downshift - then it sounds like an AA gun.
