Blinking Overdrive light Help!!!

I have a 1995 Ford Explorer 4.0 xlt. Overdrive light has been blinking for sometime now. The car does not kick into overdrive and revs pretty high- BUT Once i let off the gas a bit and press back down on the accelerator - IT DOES KICK INTO OVERDRIVE!!

A few weeks ago I tried to get the codes pulled by Ford but they told me the computer was not communicating with their scanner tool(both style scanners they have). So I took the car back. Another mechanic told me that it was a bad solenoid. Instead of guessing which solenoid I purchased a valve body assembly for under $200(MSRP $800) which includes all the solenoids as a local Lincoln Mercury shop was going out of business. I dropped the pan- no metal shavings, normal color/smell to the oil. replaced the valve body and gaskets, checked all the wiring and ground straps- ok. Reset the Cpu and test drove the car- The car still has the same problem!!!

*Question is- since the car does kick into Overdrive when I release the pedal and then press back down could the problem be a faulty throttle position sensor??? Or any other ideas? Thanks, Chris

A blinking OD light says a code is stored. Get the codes read first before you start throwing parts at it. A 95 Explorer has 2 places to read codes. One under the hood and another inside near the steering column. Find a Ford tech who knows how to check it.
